Average is not a word used in the house of Lynn and Valorie Smith. They have strived to raise their kids in a manner that would not let them settle for being average. There is no such thing as Can’t and it was proven successful with their oldest son Wyatt as he battled the odds to win the National High School Rodeo Steer Wrestling and All Around Championship his senior year in 2006. This was the first of many national titles for him, including the College National Steer Wrestling and All Around Championship in 2009. With a huge win in San Antonio, Texas this spring, Wyatt is currently sitting in the top 10 of the PRCA Steer Wrestling as he makes a run for the National Finals Rodeo.
Always determined to outdo every title that his elder brother has won, Garrett Smith has just made his own name in rodeo history. He started out his high school career by winning the National Rookie All Around as a freshman, the National All Around Championship his sophomore and again his junior year; he just made history by being the only cowboy ever to win 3 consecutive National High School Rodeo All Around Championships.
Both boys are now traveling full time and competing in the PRCA and CBR associations all around the United States and Canada.
But wait there’s one more Smith boy. Payson is just starting into the ranks of High School Rodeo and although he has absolutely no desire to follow the two older boys in the rough stock events, he loves to rope. He and his favorite horse Playboy have been tearing up the arenas in the breakaway roping and he will soon be steer wrestling.
As for the parents, they are the biggest cheerleaders the boys could ever have and they continue to live by the family goals that have never changed:
